Sea Harp Timeless Series

Sea Harp Press

Sea Harp publishers was seeking to release a collection of Christian works in the public domain. We helped them to craft a theme and curate a collection of the most important Christian spiritual classics ever written. Each title we chose focused on drawing the reader into deeper heart-connection with the person of Jesus.

For the text, we enlisted a team of editors to ensure that the manuscripts were polished and accessible for modern readers, while maintaining the original language as much as possible.

Our design challenge was to create a series design for content that spanned hundreds of years, written by more than 10 authors. Buyers might purchase the whole set, but they would be just as likely to purchase only a few. So, we needed to create covers that complemented the content of each title, that allowed every book to stand alone aesthetically while still fitting within the series. Additionally, multiple books by the same author would need to share a common aesthetic so they could be grouped into mini-collections.

We wanted each cover to convey the historic nature of the content—we wanted to books to feel like classics. So, we opted to utilize classic artwork and incorporate the author’s signature into each cover. We created a retro color-scheme to use on the spines and back covers. This tied the series together, and while differentiating them, and created a beautiful spine-out effect on a bookshelf.

For the interior layout, we worked with expert paginator, Jeff Hall, to create beautiful page designs that boasted generous margins, legible typography, an accessible page count, and a timeless aesthetic.
